TOPICAL LINIMENTS (JIAOS) AND BALMS
Fu (pronounced foo) Medicinals topical balms and liniments provide pain relief for a wide range of injuries and pain-based conditions.
These liniments and balms are formulated from ancient recipes of the Chinese Kung Fu Martial Arts lineages. Each medicine is hand-crafted in small batches in Oregon, using organic and locally-produced ingredients whenever the option is there. We choose to use the highest-quality Chinese Medicinal Herbs which are crushed by hand with mortar and pestle prior to starting an infusion process. Our oil-based infusions are heat infused slowly over a time frame of 6-7 days. All of Fu Medicinal products are designed for specific ailments as opposed to a One-All topical that claims address all of your various pains. At Fu Medicinals, our goal is to follow the theories of Chinese Medicine according to the levels of damage to the body and bodily systems. When choosing a topical medicine for your own condition, it's important to understand what is going on that is causing your pain in the first place. If your doctor has given you a diagnosis, then you're already off to a good start. If not, read the descriptions of our products below and perhaps your complaints will match up with a solid choice. You can always email us with questions or read our testimonials here and on our Etsy shop. |
Dit Da Jiao Trauma Liniment and Balm. Dit Da Jiao (dit-dah-jow) is translated from Chinese as "Hit-Fall Wine" and has been a classic remedy in Kung Fu schools for centuries. Both the original liniment and balm adaptation are made from medicinal herbs that reduce inflammation and eliminate pain very quickly. This formula is called a "Pacific North West" Dit Da Jiao and is perfect for acute injuries, as well as flare-ups from older injuries. It removes swelling, moves stagnant blood, and relaxes tense tissues to aid in healing. The liniment is the more traditional medicine, and the balm version uses allows for easy application. The balm lends itself very well to speedy recovery from trigger point therapy or strong bodywork.
Tendon Mending Jiao and Balm. This formula, in both the original liniment form as well as the balm, is made to treat chronic tendon and ligament injury, such as tendonitis and ligament (joint) sprains. This formula has a reputation for relieving stubborn cases of tendonitis and it is best when applied to the problem area before and after activity. However, because this is a warming formula, it is recommended that you avoid use during the first 24-48 hours of a new injury. The balm version allows for easy application.
Muscle Oil is the perfect oil for use in Cupping, Gua Sha (Scraping), and Massage Therapies. This is a very warming formula which helps to reduce pain, disperse toxins and stagnation, and aid in proper blood flow to the muscles and connective tissues. Not only does it work as a medium for cupping and gua sha therapies, this recipe also works as the ultimate topical for recover after such therapies. Muscle Oil was developed in Oregon over several years but it is similar to the famous U-I Oil from Old China which was used for centuries to help treat sore, aching muscles and joints that feel better with warm applications. This recipe has an excellent feel for both the patient and the practitioner, and is available in 2 ounce and 4 ounce bottles, but upon request we can provide 16 and 32 ounce amounts in pop top bottles.
Bone Spur Jiao has the reputation for working wonders with those suffering with boney growths which are sometimes called spurs. The premise behind this formula is that it works to dissipate the pain and inflammation caused by bone spurs, while providing medicinal herbs to the bone and surrounding tissues. Inflammation here is often the cause of further boney growth, so the idea is to reduce that inflammation of both the soft tissue and the bone itself, so the body can do its work preventing continued growth or perhaps dissolve some of the spur. This is a fantastic choice for reducing the pain and advancement of arthritis! This is a great liniment for chronic joint pain due to the above mentioned complaints. **as of 3/21/2021, we are currently sold out of this product until 4/7/2021**
Ghost Jiao is the newest product in the line. This liniment is potent for pain and healing and the medicinal herbs penetrate deep to the sinew, periosteum, and bone level. Use this jiao for bone bruises, fracture, and sprains. It's a great application for right after trigger point therapy sessions. This is a unique blend of herbs and resins unlike any other jiao out there and since its recent induction has gotten fantastic reviews. It's been successfully used for chronic joint pain and also has been praised for its effect on arthritis pain. Ghost Jiao is a great choice for acute tweaks of all kinds and could be an essential part of a home or travel first aid kit . The scent is quite strong, but it immediately dissipates as soon as it is rubbed into the skin. AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN APRIL 2021.
Are you wondering which product to choose? Jiaos (Liniments) are best applied by massaging a small amount into the affected area with either the fingertips or a cotton ball. Some people like to take a cotton ball or cotton wipe, wet it with the liniment, and place it over the injured area, and then tape it into place with medical or first aid tape. This will allow for continuous and deep absorption of jiao. These liniments may be applied several times per day. Each application of the liniment may be considered a dose, and it will quickly penetrate deeply upon massaging it into the skin. Balms absorb more slowly, almost like a time-release application. Some people might prefer the usage and storage of a balm over a jiao or oil, simply because they are more familiar with using the balms and gels of other products, or perhaps because liniments and oils may be spilled more easily since they are in liquid form. But rest assured that whatever you choose, you will find that the efficacy is key to making the right choice.
The balms offer ease of use while still retaining the strength of the original liniments. All balm formulas are made with organic, unrefined virgin coconut oil, and as such, when in warm to hot temperatures the balms tend to liquify back into an oil state. That is not a problem for most folks, but it should be considered when planning a trip where you may bring some balms along with you. This may become an issue if you like to keep it in your car, for example.
The balms spread very easily and don't feel too greasy on the skin. These are most applicable for when a jiao is difficult to use for whatever reasons you may have, and they are also very effective.
Please note that these products may stain light-colored clothing. Also with all of these products, a little goes a long way!! All Fu Medicinals topicals carry a mild and pleasant scent but nothing that would bother most people.
